The internet is making you lose sleep

Daily Digit is the story behind the numbers that make our world work.
Today we’re looking at how the internet affects your sleep. People with high-speed internet sleep 25 minutes less nightly than people who don’t have it, research shows. The use of technology in the bedroom has been linked to sleep deprivation since the 1980s because increased exposure to bright screens makes it hard for the body to wind down after a long day. So the better your connection to the internet, the more sleep you’re likely to lose. Sleep deprivation costs the U.S. $400 billion each year, and people who sleep less than seven hours each night have a greater risk of having chronic health issues. Bet you’re rethinking that TV in the bedroom now!
